i love reading from the point of view of a character that is just as bitter as i am
The Exorcist is AMAZING — highly recommended for anyone who likes the movie and is interested in the subject matter. The prose is gripping and emotionally rich; Blatty uses the construction of his sentences to punctuate the emotional tensions of the characters, each of whom are developed flawlessly (except perhaps Regan herself, but surely she is meant to be the embodiment of childish innocence and goodness). Karras’s struggle with his faith heartwrenching and Chris’s coping with her daughter’s condition are complementary, and one wonders how we all must face our demons, and can only hope to achieve the ambiguous victory Karras does.
A stunning work of literature.
